Suggested local trips - winter

TROLLHØE
Trollhøe (4500 feet) is one of the fine local mountain peaks easily accessible from Lemonsjøen. Setting out from Jotunheimen Lemonsjø Alpine Centre, the peak can be reached via two excellent routes in the summer and two in the winter. The routes in summer and winter respectively are described below.

Alternative 1:
From the ski centre, either take the ski lift up to the final station or head up the main slope. (If going up on foot, it is important to keep well in to the edge on the right-hand side of the slope and look out for skiers crossing half-way up). From the top of the ski lift, head diagonally to the right (north-westwards) over a slope and down into a little valley. Follow this to the right (still north-westwards). Having come to a point where the valley almost dips down towards Tessesida, a little peak becomes visible to the right. Head straight up it. From the top there is a fantastic view over to Tesse, Kvitingskjølen, Glittertinden and many of Jotunheimen’s other peaks. In the other direction, on a clear day you can see straight in to the peaks of Rondane, all the way to Dovre Fjell and Snøhetta. To the south east you can see the rounded shape of Heidalsmuen, also known as Mugkampen. You can either return by the same route or can head down a little from the cairn at the top, then turning right and circling the peak towards the right. From here you can head down to Hesthaugtjønne, onwards down to level ground and into the route heading for Brimi Fjellstugu, following this back to the ski centre.

Alternative 2:
This route takes you from the ski centre, following the prepared tracks as far as the junction for Brimi Fjellstugu at the last seter. From here, follow the track to Brimi until you reach the flats, before turning diagonally left and up to the peak. It is useful to head diagonally in order to cross round the mountainside on the side facing Tesse before turning up to the peak itself. From here you can use the same alternative descents listed in alternative 1.
