Lemonsjøen is situated in the Vågå district, in the national parks area between Jotunheimen, Rondane, Dovrefjell and Reinheimen. Vågå is also the district in Norway with the greatest number of preserved log buildings – around 150. It is 20 minutes journey to the village of Vågåmo, which contains amongst other things the old Vågå church from 1630. The name Vågå is derived from the old Norse ”vega”, meaning ”travelling, journeying”. This speaks of ancient routes between East and West. Vågå today lies very strategically between Oslo, Trondheim and western Norway via Valdresflye, Sognefjellet or Strynefjellet, roads which are kept open all winter.

Part of Vågå lies within Norway’s greatest high-mountain area – Jotunheimen, which, with nearly 300 peaks exceeding 6500 feet, reaches to the south and west. Half an hour’s drive from Lemonsjøen is the nationally-iconic Gjende, the glacial-green lake which lends its colour to the Sjoa, the river at the heart of rafting and other river sports in Norway. Lemonsjøen and surrounding areas offer a multitude of experiences and qualities all year round, both for those looking for extreme challenges and for those who wish to make their own, peaceful way through forests or plains.
